Putting One Foot In Front Of The Other Healing Through The Holidays And Every Day

Christmas time and the nearing completion of a new year always bring to me a place of reminiscing. I think it brings many of us to this same place where we look back and reflect on the previous year’s happenings and events.

There seems to be something in the air, something that is different this time of year. The air seems crisper to me, and the energy of my surroundings seems to change.

We lost our sweet Kitty on Christmas day in 2011 and that is also something that seems to be quite a bit stronger in feeling within my heart as we get closer to the December 25th date once again.

Last evening, the television was on and as I was working, I could hear the Christmas classic “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” in the background.

Kris Kringle was making his way with his newly found side kick penguin “Topper” to the village where he could bring all the children their toys, when he was stopped by the Winter Warlock; an angry, scary looking warlock that would not let him pass by.

Not until Kris Kringle pulled out a toy for the warlock, did the warlock feel the heartfelt emotions of what it was like to feel love. They then break out in the infamous song and those words have always stayed with me from childhood.

Kris starts out by singing:

“Changing from bad to good’s as easy as taking your first step.”

And then the music follows:

“You put one foot in front of the other, and soon you’ll be walking ‘cross the floor, You put one foot in front of the other, and soon, you’ll be walking out the door

If you want to change your direction, If your time of life is at hand, Don’t be the rule, be the exception, A good way to start is to stand.

You put one foot in front of the other, and soon you’ll be walking ‘cross the floor, You put one foot in front of the other, and soon, you’ll be walking out the door.”

During times of challenge and healing, I’ve often referred to this song as a tool to help me in moving forward. It reminds me to how we need to take action in order for healing to occur.

And when we start by taking it step by step, bit by bit, we start putting “one foot in front of the other” and as we continue to do so, we continue to heal and grow.

This is quite a significant piece of the puzzle when we are experiencing grief, loss and healing of any type. My message to you is that you can do the same too. Take a deep breath, start by taking a step, and put “one foot in front of the other”.

Try it and see. It’s remarkable to witness the things that happen when we decide to take action.

When you witness this song and video from start to finish, you can see the many meanings within that are hidden messages.

To me, these are gifts available to us that we can use. I invite you to take a look and watch (3 minutes in length) and see what I mean.

Wishing you the very best this holiday season. May the spirit of the season bring you much comfort and joy.

Love and hugs,

Marybeth
